A former art teacher and academic, Marian returned to painting following her retirement
and began exhibiting in 2009.
Marian works with acrylics incorporating vibrant colour, minimalism and hard-edge
abstraction and chooses diverse subject matter. Her formative influences include the Post
Impressionists; the simplicity and bold design of Japanese woodcuts and the organic,
flowing line of Art Nouveau. The Australian artist Jeffrey Smart is also a source of
inspiration.
A regular exhibitor in Gippsland and Melbourne; Marian is represented by Sol Gallery,
Fitzroy where she held two successful solo exhibitions in 2024 and 2025.
Marian has been a finalist in several national art awards including the Portia Geach
Memorial Award and the Maritime Art Award.
